Friends of La Seigneurie Gardens

2009 saw a few changes at La Seigneurie Gardens, most notably the establishment of La Seigneurie Gardens Trust. Thanks to the generosity of Seigneur Michael Beaumont, a 50 year lease on the gardens and farm buildings has been gifted to the Trust for the benefit of the Island of Sark. Mr Beaumont is a Trustee along with retired businessman Charles Maitland who is also a director, overseeing the day to day running of the gardens. The Trust aims to maintain the charm and tranquility of the Gardens while enhancing the facilities and keeping them open to the public. Our first major project was the renovation and opening of our new café, Hathaways. We’re also branching out into plant sales so our gardeners are busy cutting, potting and pricking out all winter to grow an interesting selection of plants for sale. We’ve also been thinking of our feathered friends and have put up two barn owl boxes within the grounds and numerous nest boxes for smaller birds and will be installing a wild bird feeding station near Hathaways. These are just a few of the exciting new developments we have in mind for the Gardens.

While the Trust is a charitable organisation, running the Gardens is a costly enterprise which has to be financially viable. Sark residents are still welcome to visit the Gardens free of charge but you can support us by becoming a Friend of the Trust. Membership costs just £10 a year, or £25 for a family. This will give you the opportunity to take part in the special activities and workshops we’re planning for the future but, most importantly, help us maintain this very precious part of Sark. We’d also welcome any fundraising ideas or thoughts about what activities you’d like to see here at the Gardens. For more information and an application form contact us as detailed below.
